Part II - Recollection

There are times when you feel like it is the end of your world. There are times when you feel like giving up on life. At that very moment, I thought that life had finally gotten on to me.

Monday 9th April
I woke up and found myself drenched in sweat. I looked out of the window. There was no sign of light yet. I got up and stood under the shower. The hot water felt extremely relaxing and I began collecting my thoughts. I went through the events in chronology.

Thursday 5th April
I remember my conversation with mom after reaching to San Francisco.
“Hey mom, I have reached the hotel safely.”
“Okay, beta. Take care.”
“Did you have your dinner mom?”
“Yes I did beta.” She said and cut the call.
That moment I felt as if I was her mom and not the other way around.

Friday 6th April
I left a text to my mother around 8 at night.
‘Mom, I need you to transfer some money in my account. Can you do it by tonight?’
Later that night when I checked my phone, I realised that mom hadn’t seen my text message.

Sunday 8th April
My family had launched a search warrant for the missing body. My sister and father didn’t seem to be as devastated as I was by the incident.
“…I had left her at her usual spot in the park after we dropped Ahana at the airport. She seemed alright then.” Aarti, my sister, was repeatedly explaining this to the officers who had taken up the job of finding my mother.
“What happened next?”
“Then after an hour I went to pick her up. But that day she wasn’t there. I called for her. She wasn’t anywhere. I returned home tensed and called my father. We searched every lane and street. Then some 2 hours later we found at her usual spot in the park. She was sitting on a bench, her eyes wide open as if she had seen some kind of a ghost. I touched her and the very next moment her body turned ice cold. We knew… we knew we had lost her.” Aarti said. She sounded deeply saddened by the happenings contrary to her face which seemed to reveal something different.
I came out of the shower, got dressed and went straight to my mother’s room. I had just remembered something my mother had told me. I turned on the table side lamp in my mother’s room, and to my surprise I saw a note left there in the corner. I opened it with trembling hands. It read –
It’s a trap. I’m alive.
Find me. Save me.

To be continued…
