It’s Okay To Be Unproductive…
Today as
I write my last post for this year, I reflect up on the year 2017: a blend of
bittersweet memories, thrilling adventures and a heck lot of unfamiliar
experiences. But the most important thing which I learnt during these 365 days
is that less is more.
I admit
that the mere idea of being unproductive scares the hell out of us. But on the
contrary I also agree that it is not possible to be hustling and working hard
all the time. One needs to realise that it is very much okay to have unproductive
days in your life. I guess we live in a world where people focus a lot on doing
more and more, but just being and relaxing is equally important. Just because
you see your peers reaching heights doesn’t mean you are failing. Do not
disrespect your journey by comparing it with others. Your speed doesn’t matter unless and until you are moving forward.
A friendly note: not
getting it all done doesn't mean that you're lazy! In fact, it could be the
opposite: are the expectations you have for yourself perhaps unrealistic? I
know what it's like to be ambitious, but remember that you are a human being
with human limitations, and that's okay! Set your goals high, but not so high
that you're essentially preparing yourself to fail.
Though it can be difficult, try to stop viewing an unfinished
task as a sign that you are not "good enough" or worthy of love. You are so much more than your to-do list!!
We
shouldn’t be so hard on ourselves. It is okay to not run errands on Sunday and
read your book instead—the world will keep turning, and you’ll get everything
you need to get done.
Wishing you all a happy and blessed new year!
